About Us

Anne Sanker | Coryn Danes | Stephanie Bloom | Cameron Campbell

The Coloured House started as a home-based business in 2000 by Anne and Mark Sanker whom both realised the demand for high quality window covering providers and interior design services. The business renovated an industrial building and created the showroom which is situated at its current location at 5 Hamill Street Garbutt.

Mark started his own stone masonry venture in 2010 which put Anne in full reigns of The Coloured House. With the dedicated and talented team behind her, the company saw an opportunity to focus its efforts on internal and external blinds and awnings whilst still maintaining the interior design aspects to the business.

The passion Anne and the team exceed is evident shortly after entry into the magnificent showroom, which boasts full working demonstrations of almost all of the window coverings they provide. Once you walk in, one of the team members will sit with you and discuss what it is that you want to achieve and the needs your home has. Once established – they will recommend suitable options which can easily fit within certain budgets.

Your home is likely to be the biggest investment of your lifetime, so you don’t just want any business looking working with you on your home projects. Whether you want to control or diminish sun intrusion, create privacy or extend your personality further into the look of your home with a bit of a decorative flair – the team will be able to assist you.

The Coloured House have attained Green Smart accreditation through the HIA run courses and are up to date with the energy efficient rules and regulations. What this means for you is that by understanding these processes, they can help make your home compliant.

The Coloured House have been involved with many Master Builders and HIA Award winning homes. The team also regularly attend National Trade Shows and conferences which keeps them abreast of the latest products and features in the industry.

Anne Sanker - Owner

I started The Coloured House primarily to incorporate my love of design, adding style and practicality to a person’s living space and working with clients directly on their home projects.

I have a Degree in Fine Art and Certificate in Domestic Design, which combined with my experience gives me the theory and practical skills needed to be great at my job. I had owned and run The Coloured House for 11 years, and prior to that, had 12 years in the design industry in Brisbane.

My passions come down to helping people solve their home decorative problems, particularly with window coverings. If they have any window covering needs for their home I want them to come to The Coloured House for the answer. I enjoy coming up with interesting mixes of designs, colour and style to add interest to the home and giving a sense of place and person.

I assist customers by determining what their window covering issue is - whether privacy issues, sun control or just wanting to add a bit of extra umpfff to the room. I listen and offer a solution, then transform the idea into the reality, with seeing it in the room being the greatest fulfillment for me.

I am married to Mark, who is my business partner in The Coloured House, and enjoy travelling for inspiration, eating out and relaxing at home when we get a minute.

The main message I want people to know is that internal and external window coverings are an important consideration in the planning stage of building or renovating, instead of an afterthought. Unfortunately, I have seen too many people over the years who really want a certain blind type or kind of installation, but because all the building work has been done it is not possible for these wants to happen.

The thing I love best about my job is when someone tells me how much they love their curtains, blinds, awnings, etc and what an amazing difference it has made to their home. Their satisfaction spurs them to tell their friends who come in – which is always the greatest compliment to our work. I also enjoy being able to listen to the customer and resolve their home design issues or feelings of angst – making their life a whole lot simpler if they let me make some of the decisions with them.

Coryn Danes - Sales Consultant

My name is Coryn and I have just started with The Coloured House.  Te environment  is fantastic to work in, the team is great and have been very welcoming.

For the past year I have worked in the Curtain and Soft Furnishing Industry and have loved every moment of it.  On a daily basis I was presented with the opportunities of helping clients choose fabrics and designs to go with their homes and personalities. And as I am a people person I love it when clients walk away happy with their products and any help I have provided.

I moved to Townsville 5 years ago and have really enjoyed living here and meeting new people.

When I’m not working I love spending time with my friends and family and catching up.  I also enjoy drawing and painting pictures as well as reading books in my quiet time.

Stephanie Bloom - Accounts Administrator

My name is Stephanie Bloom and I have been with The Coloured House for the past seven years. My main role with TCH is to handle the accounts.

Last year, (2010), I completed my Cert 3 in Financial Services and am hoping to start Cert 4 in the not too distant future.

Still really love working here. We have a fantastic team and it’s a pleasure to work with them.

It is very rewarding to see a client come in and tell us how much they love their new blinds and what a huge difference it has made to their house. Especially makes us feel good when a new client comes to us because their friend has recommended us.

As for personal life – I was born in Townsville and lived here all my life – been with my hubby since I was 16 and that was a long, long time ago. I am a very proud and loyal supporter of the North Queensland Cowboys and have been since the day they entered the competition, despite getting a lot of flak about it. Hoping this will be our year!!!

Cameron Campbell - Administration Support

My name is Cameron and I have recently begun my career with The Coloured House and am enjoying the atmosphere and role immensely.

My passion for computers and software benefits not only to the customer but to The Coloured House because as a system-orientated person, I can create a smoother experience with everything being electronically stored and filed systematically.  What inspires me the most about computers and software is new software. That being said, I can assist The Coloured House in implementing new systems that can create high efficiency in work flow and customer experience. With my background in beta-testing Microsoft Office 2010, I can also assist in different experiences within the programs and better utilisation of these programs.

As for my self-motivated and excited attitude, this creates a great atmosphere for the clients of The Coloured House as they feel welcome and comfortable and as they say attitude is contagious. This love for people is a general attribute I have gained by thinking that if I love people they will in time, love me.

I grew up in a small country town called Dalby, 80km west of Toowoomba.  I got into my current occupation as I had a great deal of experience with customer service and general administration duties with helping my father running his business (administration and logistics) so my skills were easily transferable. My hobbies involve video games and their development and professional networking (socialising with high-end business people for personal development). I also have recently taken up the sport of Frisbee.

I was able to achieve one of my childhood dreams at the age of 19 and that was to travel to America which I will move to eventually as it is one of my long term goals. My favourite NRL team is the Gold Coast Titans as my friend and associate Matt Rogers plays for.
